Nationwide events

A global vision care company with strong UK market share wanted to grow the contact lens category by helping independent opticians succeed. A programme of practical business training gave those partners support with pricing, contact lens services and digital marketing, including a common problem: excellent practices that were hard to find online or poorly represented by their websites.

Challenge

Independent opticians played a central role in recommending and fitting contact lenses, then caring for patients over time. To grow the category, the company needed to help those practices see how contact lens services could contribute to a healthy business and lasting patient relationships. Practice owners faced broader commercial challenges too. They needed to attract patients, set prices and present their services clearly. Many delivered a strong experience in person but were less visible in local Google and Bing searches, while their websites gave prospective patients a weaker impression of the practice. And their websites often lacked lead generation impact.

Approach

As part of a wider commitment to its optical partners, the company developed practical business training shaped by the needs of independent practice owners. Sessions covered how to promote a practice, develop its contact lens portfolio and make informed pricing decisions. The digital marketing training helped opticians examine how their practices appeared in local search and whether their websites reflected the experience patients would find in person. It covered improvements to business listings, website content and calls to action, alongside ways to use data to understand what worked. Interactive exercises helped participants identify changes they could make in their own practices. More than 150 independent opticians took part through regional roadshows, multiple sessions at a dedicated training facility and a larger professional conference event (BCLA).

Result

More than 150 independent opticians took part in the training. Net Promoter Score was consistently +90, and participants consistently asked for further help. The work demonstrates how training for independent partners can serve both sides of a B2B2C relationship. Opticians gained skills they could apply to their own businesses, while the supplier supported the professionals central to its category growth strategy.
